Conductor Miles Vokurka

The Port Townsend Summer Band’s new Conductor, Miles Vokurka takes over direction of the band following the retirement of Karl Bach who led the band for the past 17 years. Miles has been a Port Townsend resident for over 20 years and has had an active musical life on the Olympic Peninsula, performing with the Port Townsend Community Orchestra, the Sequim City Band, the Port Angeles Symphony, the Turtle Bluff Orchestra and small ensembles as well as the Port Townsend Summer Band. .Prior to his move to Port Townsend from the Midwest, he taught music and directed high school bands in the Chicagoland area. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Music Education and a Master in Performance Degree from the Music School at Northwestern University. He was also a clarinet student of Jerome Stowell of the Chicago Symphony. Miles plans to continue the same schedule of monthly concerts and performances at the Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations that the band has presented for the Port Townsend Community since its formation 25 years ago. The band is a nonprofit group of volunteer local musicians and it rehearses weekly throughout the summer months. New players with at least a good high school band performance level are always invited to join the Band.
